Comments: Before being released from active duty in 1965 as an FTG2, I was briefly assigned to the Canberra. I believe we were stationed at Long Beach at the time [though it may have been San Diego]. Participated in a couple of shore gun-fire exercises off the California coast [San Clemente Island].
    Best duty I ever had.

    Comments: Hi Guys,

The ex HMAS Canberra FFG02 was recently scuttled as a diving wreck off Geelong in Victoria Australia, I have redeveloped the Web Page and it includes a section on the USS Canberra and the special and unique historical links our Navies and the Ships bearing the name of Canberra have. It includes information on the the USS Canberra Bell and what significants it has to the ANZUS Treaty and our ongoing commitment as allies.

    Email: Trish46@roadrunner.com
    Location: Queensbury, NY

Comments: My father, Joseph Jerome Niclaus, was a Carpenters Mate 3rd Class aboard the USS Canberra from 1944 until 1946 and was aboard the ship when it was torpedoed. My dad has since passed, but was always proud of his Navy history. We were also able to visit the Canberra when it was refitted as a Missile Ship in the 60's. I was happy to tour the ship and proud to be on the same ship that my Dad served.
He passed away from complications of Alzheimer's in 1998. I still have the newspaper articles, letters of the ship's tours of duty during the 1944 time line.

Comments: My late husband, Ralph Joseph Fulk, served aboard the USS Canberra twice. Once for her first cruise... and then went in to the reserves at McKaigs Hill, before being recalled to active duty and Vietnam.

I am trying to learn if the ship docked at Vietnam and if anyone recalls any crewmen going on shore, in general.
    Thank you!!!
