I just wanted to report the passing of my father in law, Lou Meschini, on January 8, 2010. He was on board from 1943-1946. He served on one of 5" gun crews and reminisced fondly of his time on board. He mentioned that at one time he was selected by Captain Early to stand guard as an Admiral or other dignitary came on board. Would anybody know who this may have been? Lou was a great guy and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Looking for any shipmates who served on Canberra in Vietnam waters and have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.I was on Canberra from Dec 64 to Oct 66. VA states we are not qualified for any benefits as we are considered "Blue water Navy" Most often we were so close to shore we had to wear flack jackets and helmets. Is it possible the agent Orange sprayed along the coast could have gotten in our drinking water or drifted out to sea? Especially around Chu Lai, Tuy Hoa and DaNang where we spent considerable time?
