I have a letter that was sent to him concerning his dedication to get the job done. He was only 77 when he died. He did not talk much about that experience. I know more now than I did when he was alive. His brother was on board with him. He has now passed also. His name was Frank Moore.I wish we had had this website then, when he was alive or I wish I knew of it.
  • Another crewmember makes the great journey Posted on June 1, 2013 06:28 pm Name: Capt Jim McIntyre
    Email: onecaptainjim76@gmail.com

Comments: Third Division Seaman Donald DeMott 1963-1965
Donald Ray DeMott Sr. died on May 7, 2013. He died of Acute Respiratory arrest and Burkitt's lymphoma. He also had heart disease and diabetes.
Don was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was an entertainer and played guitar all their married life and his wife said she loved every minute of it.
Don would play Elvis songs and Country Songs. He liked Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylan Jennings, Johnny Cash... etc..lots of them.

During the later years he played hymns and sang in church. His wife Pauline told of so many good memories. He loved to hunt and fish. They have 4 children.. Don Jr, Darrin, Greg and Sheri.. many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

“I am sure you would have liked him if you had known him after he was out of the service,” she wrote.
In Christ, he became a new man, and remained forever true, he is now anticipating, as all of us should be, his eternal reward.

We salute our shipmate, Seaman Donald DeMott, and bid him a most blessed journey that one day we will meet with him again on the River of Life!
