Father, James Everett Wallin, served on the CA-70 in WWII when it was torpedo. Assisted in the repairs until ship was bought to Boston in 1944. He was then discharged. Interesting that the CA-70 in January 1944 provided service support in the Battle of Entwetok; I was stationed on Entwetok in 1957-58 serving in the US Army. Thanks to my father and all that served on the CA-70.

Gentlemen, great news over this weekend, with the announcement from the White House, no less, that one of the new Littoral Class Ships will be named in honour of HMAS Canberra and of course your glorious heavy / guided missile cruiser, USS Canberra (I). There is now a USS Canberra (II) to pass the 'weigh' onto. BZ
Yours aye,
CO Navy Headquarters Tasmania sends.

Hello,
As a former sailor of the Royal Australian Navy, who once served on HMAS Canberra FFG 02.
I just wanted to say how much we appreciate, that the United States Navy will name a new ship USS Canberra, It is a great honour and it means a lot to us.
We hope that one day she will come to Australia to visit us, she will be most welcome.
Best wishes to our friends in America .

Trying to determine in the USS Canberra CAG-2 ever had a presence in Lebanon waters between July 1,1958 and November 1,1958. Doing research for a fellow Navy vet.
