My father James Agnew Sr. served on the USS Canberra CA-70 during WWII as a aviation machinist mate, second class, serving primarily on the Voight OS2U Kingfisher seaplanes. Dad passed away this year at the age of 84. He is survived by my mother Janet, brother Brian and three grandchildren Ryan, Sean and Christopher. We was a 44 year veteran of the DuPont company. He enjoyed the USS Canberra reunions and spoke of his shipmates often. Please add Dad's name to the many departed WWII Canberra vets.

Got a chance to visit with my Dad at the Nimitze Museum in Fredericksburg and saw all of the plaques for USS Canberra and HMAS Canberra. Very impressive museum.
My Dad (Joseph P. Walker Jr, LT USNR) was the Navigation officer on the USS Canberra (CA 70) during WWII. He has been active in the ship's reunions for a number of years.

I am looking for information for my Dad who served on the USS Canberra. I was born in 1957 in San Diego. I know he served until 1968 when he retired as a Chief Petty Officer, Electronics.
I want to get him a Naval Print and some detail. I think this was the ship he served most of his Naval career on. I know we were stationed in San Diego, Beeville Tx, Norflok, Charleston and then we went to Great Lakes where he retired. He know lives in Jacksonville, Florida.
Any assistance or information you can provide me would be appreciated.

Hello, My Grandpa, John F. O'Connell of Sommerville, MA was on the USS Canberra when it was torpedoed during WWII. He would often retell the story of the ship to me and I was always fascinated by it. Unfortunately, my Grandpa died last March. I am a history major at Boston University and I was assigned a project in which I must write up a proposal on a topic that interests me. It would be a honor for me to tell the story of the great men who served on the USS Canberra in WWII. I need your help. I need to hear from you about your experiences aboard the USS Canberra. I thank you for the time you spent in the military to keep our country free and great. Please email me on how I may contact you. Thank you, Lauren
