Hey shipmates, I'm a former Plank Owner being on board from 6/15/56 to 4/30/59 in both the 7th Div. the first 6 months and then in S-1 Div. until April 59. I would like to know if anyone knows how I could get in touch with shipmates in the S-1 Div, Chuck Boyle SK3, Joe Reposa SN & W.J.Avery SN. Or I would like to hear from anyone who might remember me. My grandfather, Laurent Joseph Dubois, served on board the USS Canberra during WWII, and was present when the ship was struck by a torpedo. I can remember him telling me about it when I was a kid, and I had decided to serve in the Navy like he did. This is a great web page to honor your shipmates. Bravo Zulu

The pictures of the CA 70 were wonderful. I felt like I was back onboard again. I ran into a Canberra alumni from the CAG 2 from 1955 today. His name was John Condon.

My father, CWO LeRoy Merryman, was a plank owner in Engineering Division. Did some diving in the damage control efforts to patch the hull after the torpedo attack on 13 Oct 44. Received Silver Star and LDO to LTJG. He died in 1961. I still have his certificates as plank owner and member of "Streamlined Bait Group".

My father, William Price Sr. served onboard the Canberra during WWII. He was there when she was hit by the aerial torpedo and has shared some of those memories with me. I am very proud of him and all that served with him. He passed on Oct. 14, 1990, the day after the 46th anniversary. Dad always did like to stay around for anniversaries. If anyone who visits this site knew him and would like to share some memories please email me. God Bless You All.

My Uncle, Richard Coffey, was a plank owner aboard CA-70. Also he and my Father helped build her in Bethlehem Steel Fore River plant. Uncle passed away in 1980, took to his grave what he saw on that fateful day in '44. God Bless All who served with him during that horrible time
