Don't know if you guys are aware of our Commissioning Lady, Lady Alice Dixon, she commissioned the CA-70.

My grandfather, Walter F. Churchill, was serving on the USS Canberra when it got torpedoed in 1944. He survived the attack and was discharged from the Navy in 1945. Just wondering if anyone here has/had relatives who might remember him? He was born and raised in Lynn, MA. He was discharged with the rank of EM3/c.

Msgr. Maurice S. Sheehy spent Easter week at sea aboard the USS CANBERRA in 1957. He was my great Uncle. He was the first three star chaplain in the history of the armed services. He was the first priest selected by the Navy for the rank of Rear Admiral in 1958. He served 33 months in the pacific during the war. He was also an author and published 6 books. I'm always looking to learn more about him.

I was a member of the USS Canberra from 1960 thru Sept. 1961 at which time I was discharged from the Navy. Had a great time on this ship, especially the trip around the World as a People to People cruise. I was an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class (EM2). Maybe some of you remember me. While in Italy, I went on leave at Livorno and went home up in the mountains, while the ship proceeded to Rome for the 1960 Olympics. I rejoined the ship in Greece and while there Jane Mansfield came aboard ship with her husband and daughter. I think the daughter is now a star on television in the Law and Order series.
Hello to all.

My Grandfather, John H Lewis, served on the U.S.S. Canberra during the time it was torpedoed. He always said he worked as a radar operator. The stories he told about his time on board spoke of the excitement and harrowing experiences he went through. He passed away in 1992.
