I am looking for anyone whom may have known my grandfather, Fred Baker. Not sure of exactly when he was on board, but do remember stories of when they where hit by a torpedo. If anyone knows of him, I ask that you please help a shipmate out.

My father, CDR William H. Smith, USN(Ret) who is now 97 was assigned duty as an engineering officer for the Canberra at the shipyard where it was being constructed. He has asked me to try to locate the names of the officers and sailors who perished during the attack on October 13th as he may have known them. I have searched unsuccessfully on the web. Can someone suggest how I might find those names or possibly send them to me?

Comments:
I was looking for info on skipper LJ Stecher[late fifties] I believe he made vice admiral, wondered if he was still living, would like to say hello if I can find him. I served under his command
and Capt. Levering Smith at White Sands, New Mexico Guided Missle Station, he was executive officer at that time, he took command of the Canberra in the fifties. I know Capt Smith passed away.
