My brother Jerald L. Baker served on the guided missile cruiser USS Canberra during the late 1950's and early 1960's.
Jerry was a boiler fireman and was on ship during the 8 month world cruise and during the Cuban Missile crisis.
Jerry passed away yesterday, January 10, 2015. He was proud of his Naval service and his family was very proud of him. In civilian life, he worked as a steam engineer (boiler fireman) utilizing skills and experience acquired aboard the Canberra. As a young boy of 15, I was able to visit the ship with my parents while she was in port in Norfolk.

My grandfather, Antonio Belmonte from Boston, served aboard the Canberra during WWII. He was on board when they got torpedoed. He has many stories and pictures, it's still his favorite thing to talk about. He will turn 91 this year and is as strong as an ox still.
