I was wondering if anybody remembers my Dad Irving G. Arnold I am not sure when he served on the Canberra but I know that he did. He is 87 this year and would like to know if anybody remembers him. He grew up in Baltimore Maryland. I have some pictures of when President Dwight D Eisenhower was aboard your ship. That should help a little.

  • Seeking Verification Posted on August 8, 2007 05:28 pm Name: Edward (Barry) Tegeler
    Email: barry_tegeler@hotmail.com

Comments: I served aboard The Canberra CAG-2 from June of 1966 until July of 1967. I went from a SA to a FTM3 while serving. I am seeking verification and dates of two combat experiences. When we took a hit behind the aft 3 inch Gun mount which blew holes in the 3 inch powder magazine ( I was the crazy kid who tried to put the fires out with fire extinguishers) and was in the compartment behind the bulkhead when we took the hit. Remember the officer who got the bronze star? The crew who got the citation? The second occurred just south of Hunan Island China. I was on the fantail dumping trash while we were at GQ. Could not make it back to the superstructure as we evaded the big guns from China. Most likely 18"? Myself and one other sailor saw the whole show from the fantail until we were about 30 miles out. We had some real close misses. Please call me at 989-619-4628, Anyone have a cruise book?
