I was on 3rd and 4th WestPac cruises in 66 through 68.
I was in X division. I was a journalist and a part-time disc jockey for KANG radio. I hosted the "jazz-time" radio show from 8:00 - 9:30 pm.
I have 8x10's of the ship after it was hit by shrapnel.
The Canberra was a beautiful ship. The visit to Melbourne Australia stands out as a highlight.

Served aboard the Canberra and went on the world cruise. Want to know the date we crossed the dateline at the equator. Plus other dates. I remember the cities and areas that we visited, but not the dates.
My station was the aft port Mark 56 Gun Fire Control System. My system and gun crew won the "E" for 5 inch guns, three years in a row in Gitmo.
My time aboard the Canberra was one of the best time of my young life. Great ship and my home for four years. And a great bunch of guys.
If anyone remembers the cruise, help me with the dates.
Thanks.

Canberra Shell Hit

My Father, SCPO, FTC Deland C. Flodman, was aboard at the time of this hit. Mr. Hoppke's bunk was below my father's locker. I e-mailed him personally and he replied to me with his story of this. My mom just gave me a piece of the Canberra with a hole in it, which was given to my father after this incident. I would love to share all the photos my father was given by the Navy which show the path of the shell pieces. I have his cruise book which has a hole through it from this. Also if there is a memorial section to this page, I would love to have my father placed on it. Thank You.

I was reminded when I saw a couple of recent address corrections that mine has changed.
I served in F Div. from Dec. '56 through Aug. '59. I worked on the Weapons Control Station on the 05 level. I've communicated with several shipmates - it's always great to get an email from someone who was on board at the same time. Wanted to get to the reunion this year but again it hasn't worked out. Have a cup of coffee for me, Cleve!

Just visiting. My father served on the Canberra, I believe in 66. The ship was struck by a shell and I have my father's cruise book with a shrapnel hole in it. My father, SCPO,FTC Deland C. Flodman passed away on Friday, 08/28/09. My mother, who was a Wave in the Navy, gave me his Operation Sea Dragon Tie tack. So I was just looking around the web for info on it. I would like to thank all of you who my have served with; my father and all active duty service men and women out there for your service to our great country. Please feel free to e-mail me as I would love to hear from any of you. Once again thank you!
