Comments: Hello Shipmates and Guests, I am proud to be an original plank owner on the USS Canberra (CAG 2). In 1956, transferred from USS Mississippi to the USS Canberra (pre commission) at the Philadelphia Shipyard. Served in the OI Division with some great shipmates and pals and have very fond memories of my service on this great ship. I would love to hear from some of my shipmates and buddies. Great site. I regret not learning about the alumni association sooner. Would definitely have attended the 1999 reunion in VA. Smooth sailing to one and all. Andy RD2 (CAG 2)

Comments: On the Canberra, 2nd Div. (64-66), OL Div. (66-67).......I hope one of my shipmates can answer this question, I was sitting in the OL Div. compartment the morning we took the hit in ' 67 and the starboard side bulkhead opened up and the shrapnel went everywhere hitting at least one of my guys, but I never did hear what hit us?? To my recollection, we were steaming with our portside toward the shore and if this is true, how did a shore battery hit the starboard side? Maybe one of you guys out there knows the answer. It might have said how in the cruise book, but although I ordered and paid for a book, I did not receive it, maybe because I got discharged in early August and the yeoman responsible for mailing made a mistake. If anyone out there has an extra copy of the cruise book and would mind parting with it, I'd be glad to purchase it. Or, if anyone would like to loan me their copy to view, I guarantee a prompt return at my expense. Thanks in advance for any answers and go Buckeyes and Broncos.

Comments: My respects to all those who ever served aboard the Canberra. I called fire for a number of cruisers and destroyers and was witness to their devastating toll on the enemy and the immense relief it provided Marines. Thank you for being there. -- I am a former Marine Naval Gunfire Spotter (3rd Btn/11th Marines & ANGLICO) and am curious about the Canberra's action off Vietnam in 1965-66. I also am curious about the action of the USS St. Paul and a number of destroyers on station off Vietnam while I was a gunfire spotter. I called fire from a number of those ships, the names of which I can no longer remember, except the Canberra, the St. Paul and a couple of destroyers.. Thanks for any information anyone can provide.
