My dad served on this wonderful ship during WWII. Looking through this web page I recognize several names of people my dad talked about and some of whom I have met. I am proud of my father for all he has done for his family and for having served with all the men of the USS Canberra.

Thank you so much for providing this page. It took me forever to find it, but it was well worth the wait. I am going to make a scrapbook for my dad for Christmas. My dad, Jerry Lattimore, served aboard this mighty ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I can't wait to see his face when he opens up this scrapbook. Thank you for the photos and history!! Anchors Away........

Hi all I just wanted you all to know that you all have lost a shipmate. William H. Perry of Vallejo, California who is an original Plank Owner and was on the ship on it's first commission passed away on Oct.22nd. He died of cancer. I just wanted to thank all of you, his shipmates who had been or have corresponded with him during his illnesses. He had a leg amputated last year from circulatory problems. I have various newspaper clippings that he saved throughout the career of the ship, including a picture that appeared on the front page of a 1972 or 73 issue that was taken of him looking at his papers on the ship. It was coming to Mare Island Shipyard to be put into mothballs at that time and he was on the front page. As a matter of fact I used that same 8X10 glossy as his obituary picture I miss my dad terribly. This will be the first Christmas without him, so in closing, I just want to say that you guys are the best. He said so and if he said so it must be so. I have been looking through his numerous pictures and I found a lot of some mates and himself in what appears to be shore leave situations I'll post some as soon as the dust settles a bit maybe some of you can recognize yourselves. Thank you again, Rick Perry

Served on board in M-Division 1964 to 68. Great ship and crew. Made four WestPac cruises while on board. As yet have not made any of the reunions, but Seattle is tempting. Too bad that the ship could not have been saved and made into a memorial like so many others.

Served onboard 66-67 Vietnam, and port visits Hong Kong, Olongapo, (2 day RR Manila, Taiwan, and Australia. I was on watch (radarman) when got hit by 155 mm surface to air missile. I was young and had a great time. Port and starboard watches were a little rough. It was a great ship and we had a great crew.
