Comments: READ IN THE DETROIT FREE PRESS THAT THE USS CANBERRA WAS HAVING A REUNION IN OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR. I SERVED ONBOARD THE USS BOSTON 57 TO 61, BUT WENT THRU BOOT AND MACHINIST MATE SCHOOL WITH A JOHN CROSS FROM DETROIT AND WONDERED IF HE WAS STILL IN THE DETROIT AREA. I BELEIVE HE WAS A MM2 WHEN HE GOT OUT IN 61. IF ANYONE KNOWS HIS ADDRESS PLEASE ADVISE VIA E-MAIL.

Comments: Served aboard Canberra in FOX Division working on the SPQ-5 missile radars from the time the ship left Norfolk,Va in 64 till I was discharged in June 67. Condition 3 four on and eight off. Harrassment and interdiction fire. The collision with the USS Buck. The typhoon during transit in 66. Than Hoa, North Vietnam. Chiu Lai, DaNang-Marble Mountain, Hue. The DMZ to the Delta - gunfire. Sunshine- lots of sunshine. The greatest guitar players in the world are at Subic Bay in the bars in town. Shore patrol on the night the Roosevelt Roads couldn't relieve the Kitty Hawk and 3000 sailors turned Subic Bay into the Friday night fights. The Chaplain telling us not to do it followed by the ships doctor telling us how to do it. To those who survived, a cup of coffee. I stopped drinking in 71, drank my share in Subic and some of yours. Wouldn't have missed a minute of it but wouldn't do it again for a million bucks. Worked hard, partied hard. Loved hard! No scars and eternally grateful for those who gave their lives so that I live free and sleep safely at night. "God Bless You"! To those who served and survived "Welcome Home"! Wonderful ship! Fantastic crew!

Comments: President George Bush honored the Prime Minister of Australia by gifting him the bell from the USS Canberra. Also, the unknown soldiers that are buried at Arlington National Cemetary were chosen from the USS Canberra's deck. I recently received an e-mail from Joe who served with my Daddy, Enrico on the USS Canberra in the engine room when it was struck by the Japanese on October 13,1944. When I look into the mirror I can see my likeness to my Daddy. I carry his love of his country and his dear ship the USS Canberra. God Bless America and the USS Canberra and those who served on this Heroic Mighty Ship. God Bless! The Rising Sun could never defeat the mighty USS Canberra or its crew.
